Make your own locally foraged earth pigments
The oldest paints in history were made from the earth, rocks and minerals were found and ground to create luminous paints.
In this class we will explore several ways to transform foraged rocks and minerals into inks and paints for artistic use. Then we will create color wheels for these earth paints, and use them in two beautiful painting projects. Students will take home several inks they have made in class and recipes for the paints we make.
Students may want to bring their own brushes or dip pens if they have them, and a notebook for jotting down important points. A stone or ceramic mortar and pestle would also be useful. We have some, but if you bring one, you won’t need to wait your turn.
Please wear clothing that doesn’t mind getting spills on it.
